Donald Trump Gets Convicted

Former President Donald Trump has been found guilty on all counts in his New York criminal hush money trial. The trial centered around allegations that he falsified business records to hide a hush money payment to porn star Stormy Daniels ahead of the 2016 presidential election.

The 34 felony counts against Trump were related to the falsification of records to conceal his unlawful interference in the 2016 election through the $130,000 hush money payment. Notably, this trial was the first criminal trial in United States history against a former president, so it was an accomplishment for the city of New York and the District Attorney Alvin Bragg his staff and the jury. So, I’m in no way taking anything away from the hard work just reiterating we have such a far way to go but we ain’t no ways tired.

In my view this verdict marks a historic moment, as Trump is the first former U.S. president convicted of a crime. Although, I don’t think he will go to jail like any other American would. The conviction solidifies the fact that we in America are living in a two-tier justice system one for the rich and another for the middle class and poor.

As for the possible impact on Trump’s political future, the Thursday verdict does not prevent him from seeking another term in the White House. The Constitution specifies the qualifications to serve as president, and being convicted on felony counts does not disqualify him from running. His sentencing is scheduled for July 11, and given that this is his first felony offense, his sentence is likely to be light, possibly probation or home confinement. If he does receive jail time, it would probably be less than a year. Trump is also likely to appeal the conviction, which could delay any potential jail time until after the 2024 election.

Key witnesses in the trial included former Trump lawyer Michael Cohen, who testified about submitting invoices for “legal expenses” related to the payment to Stormy Daniels. Cohen claimed that Trump knew about the payment. However, Trump’s defense lawyer Todd Blanche accused Cohen of lying on the stand. Stormy Daniels herself provided detailed testimony about the alleged sexual encounter, raising questions about the defense’s objections to her statements.

We shall soon see if this verdict has significant implications and adds to the complexity of the 2024 presidential election landscape. Regardless of one’s political stance, it’s a momentous event in U.S. legal history. 🇺🇸🗳️.
