Lauren Boebert (R-Colorado) is facing a wave of backlash recently why cause, Boebert advocated for displaying the Ten Commandments in public school classrooms, emphasizing the need for morals. However, her stance has drawn backlash due to perceived hypocrisy. Critics point to Boebert’s own ethical missteps, including a public groping incident during a theater production and her son’s legal troubles related to theft. While some conservative Christians support the law, First Amendment advocates raise concerns about the separation of religious institutions and government in public schools. Boebert’s comments have ignited debate over the role of religious symbols in educational settings and the history of hypocrisy in the United States as it relates to the founding document.
First, the United States was built on hypocrisy remember the declaration of independence
The foundational document in American history, the one that carries many inherent contradictions as it pertains to Slavery and Equality. While Thomas Jefferson eloquently wrote that “all men are created equal” and possess “unalienable Rights,” he himself owned enslaved individuals. In fact, only 10 out of the 607 people he owned were freed during his lifetime. This stark contrast between the ideal of equality and the reality of slavery highlights the document’s hypocrisy.
In his 1850 Independence Day speech, Frederick Douglass, an abolitionist and former slave, used the Declaration’s principles to criticize America for its hypocritical founding. He pointed out that the lofty words about liberty and equality did not apply to enslaved African Americans. The Declaration’s promise of freedom did not immediately extend to all Americans. It took decades of struggle, including the Civil War and subsequent civil rights movements, for marginalized groups to gain their rights and exercise them fully. Now we have a group of people that want to turn back the clock using the ten commandments as a guise.
The Declaration of Independence represents noble ideals, its implementation and historical context reveals complexities and contradictions much like todays 21st century America.
So, in essence of recognizing Representative Lauren Boebert’s immorality and hypocrisy or the United Stated of America’s transgressions which were built on the deception it apparently never intends to truly acknowledge. We can only hope one day the nuances and atrocities may one day help us all understand the ongoing journey toward a more just and equitable society. 🗽📜 ~Balance Due
