Criminalizing Homelessness and Praising Greed

The Supreme Court’s recent decision on homelessness has raised several concerning issues. The ruling essentially criminalizes homelessness by upholding an Oregon city’s anti-camping ordinance. People can now be punished for sleeping outside when they have nowhere else to go. I’m sure other states will follow this same heartless strategy.

Justice Sonia Sotomayor passionately dissented, emphasizing that sleep is a biological necessity, not a crime. She accused the majority of focusing too much on local governments’ needs and not enough on “the most vulnerable in our society” who live unsheltered every night. Sotomayor highlighted that homelessness results from interconnected issues such as stagnant wages, rising housing costs, domestic abuse, and psychiatric disabilities. Criminalizing homelessness can lead to a cascade of harm, including incarceration and retribution. Regardless of the verdict, the real problem remains, all the money and resources are moving in one direction. The lack of affordable housing and support services. In addition, I would be remised not to mention the top one percent own close to 50 percent of all the wealth in the US and it’s very plausible to assume according to the wealth disparity in America they own the Supreme Court and majority of the Politicians. And in furtherance, the ruling doesn’t fully address the root causes of rising homelessness, which is wealth inequality, greed and corruption. This ruling is a serious sin in gods eyes.

The Bible says, there will be a serious price to pay. In furtherance of the context, I refer to James 5:1Now listen, you rich people, weep and wail because of the misery that is coming on you. Your wealth has rotted, and moths have eaten your clothes. Your gold and silver are corroded. Their corrosion will testify against you and eat your flesh like fire. You have hoarded wealth in the last days.Look! The wages you failed to pay the workers who mowed your fields are crying out against you. The cries of the harvesters have reached the ears of the Lord Almighty. You have lived on earth in luxury and self-indulgence. You have fattened yourselves in the day of slaughter. You have condemned and murdered the innocent one, who was not opposing you.

Ordinary people all over the world find themselves asking the question, “Who bequeathed the Rich, Politicians and the Supreme Court dominion of the earth and all its resources?”

1 Corinthians 10:22 Are we trying to arouse the Lord’s jealousy? Are we stronger than he? ~Balance Due
