The same is true in life – overindulging in pleasurable activities in pursuit of happiness can ironically lead to emptiness and unhealthy stress instead. Balance is key to more favorable results. Let’s explore this through three main ideas:

When people are motivated primarily by pleasure, especially related to food, drink, and vices, it can fuel serious health issues. Overeating can lead to obesity, overdrinking to alcoholism, and smoking to cancer and heart disease.
Research shows mindful consumption – slowing down to savor your food’s taste and texture – can prevent overeating and provide other benefits. The same applies to alcohol and nicotine. Overdoing it decreases enjoyment as your body builds up a tolerance.
